Visit to St Nicholas Hospice
The end of November saw a landmark debate in the Commons about assisted dying. Thank you to the many constituents who took the time to write to me with their views.
In the lead-up to the debate I visited the St Nicholas Hospice in Bury St Edmunds and had the opportunity to listen to their CEO, Linda McEnhill, and many members of their wonderful palliative care team to discuss this matter.
After much deliberation I voted for the Bill and gave a speech in Parliament outlining my reasoning. The Bill now moves on to further stages of legislative scrutiny, where it will be examined line-by-line to ensure that all safeguards are strict and appropriate. After that it will return to a vote in the House of Commons.
