The Digitalisation of the NHS
In my first interview on Politics East, I had the opportunity to discuss how innovation is playing a vital role in transforming our healthcare system. As we look to build a modern NHS that works for everyone, embracing new technologies is key to delivering better, more accessible care.
Here in Bury St Edmunds, a GP practice is already leading the way. They’ve introduced a new AI-assisted system that has completely transformed how patients access appointments. Gone are the days of the morning rush to book an appointment over the phone. Instead, this innovative system ensures patients can quickly and efficiently book the care they need, freeing up time for both patients and healthcare staff.
This shift from analogue to digital represents a fundamental step toward modernising our NHS. By using technology to streamline processes and improve accessibility, we can ensure that healthcare is more responsive and effective. Importantly, innovations like this also help to alleviate some of the pressures faced by our hardworking healthcare professionals, enabling them to focus on delivering the best possible care to patients.
The potential for AI and digital tools in healthcare is enormous—from triaging patients more effectively to managing resources and reducing waiting times. However, to fully realise this potential, we must ensure that these innovations are accessible to all. That means investing in infrastructure, providing training for staff, and addressing digital inclusion so that no one is left behind.
As your MP, I will continue to advocate for the support and investment needed to bring these advancements to our community and beyond. Innovation is not just about technology—it’s about building a healthcare system that puts people first, ensuring everyone receives the care they deserve, when they need it.
I am incredibly proud to see Bury St Edmunds leading the way, and I look forward to continuing to champion the adoption of innovative solutions that can transform lives and secure the future of our NHS.
If you have thoughts or experiences to share about accessing healthcare locally, I would love to hear from you. Together, we can work towards building a modern, inclusive, and effective healthcare system for all.
