Celebrating a Local Autism Hero

I’m absolutely delighted to congratulate Thomas Howard (@TomHowardASD) — a vital member of my team and a passionate campaigner — on receiving a Personal Achievement Award at the Autism Hero Awards 2025!

Hosted by Anna Kennedy Online at Regents Park in London, the Autism Hero Awards celebrate individuals making an outstanding impact on neurodiversity awareness, acceptance, and inclusion across the UK. Tom is a shining example of that spirit.

From championing mandatory neurodiversity training in higher education — a campaign that gained over 16,000 signatures and was debated in Parliament — to creating the Bury Film Group CIC, which runs free, autism-friendly cinema screenings for hundreds of people across our area, Tom’s work is breaking down barriers and transforming lives.

His dedication to disability rights and inclusive community spaces is nothing short of inspirational. As his manager and his MP, I see every day how hard he works, how deeply he cares, and how much he gives back — not just to Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket, but to the entire neurodivergent community.

Tom, this award is so well deserved. Your courage, leadership and determination make all of us proud — and your work continues to pave the way for a more inclusive future.
