International Women’s Day
On International Women’s Day, I’m proud to join the Royal British Legion (@PoppyLegion) in celebrating the extraordinary contribution of female veterans to our Armed Forces.
Here in Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket, we are home to 648 female veterans — each one of them having played a vital role in defending our country, supporting peacekeeping missions, and safeguarding the freedoms we hold dear.
Their service and sacrifice too often go unrecognised, but their impact is profound and enduring. Whether serving on the front line or in crucial support roles, these women have shown immense courage, resilience, and commitment.
International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress, to push for greater equality, and to thank those who have paved the way — not just in our communities, but across our Armed Forces.
To all the women who have worn the uniform: thank you. Your service continues to inspire generations and reminds us that strength, leadership, and dedication know no gender.
